Point Pelee National Park

The most Southern point of mainland Canada

Point Pelee National Park, this is the place I go to when I need to clear my head. The greatest thing about this place is that it is always changing. For 9 years I have been coming here to see how the end (The Tip) changes. This the the most Southern Point of mainland Canada. This was the first year that I got to see the sandbar that goes on forever. Normally where the trees and rocks are, that’s the end. It is here that you are now standing just south of the 42nd parallel.  Some of Canada’s rarest plants and animals can be found here because of the mild climate.

Southern Tip Canada

During Covid 2020 I made my way down here in the summer while things were not too bad. There were no crowds, no tram to take you to the end and it was peaceful.

Things to do in Point Pelee National Park

Trails

There are so many walking and biking trails throughout the park. During the summer months the lush greenery and maintained trails are a great day adventure. In the winter (if there is snow) put on your snowshoes and take in the brisk air.Peleetrail

Boardwalk

Head to the boardwalk to see the diverse animal life. From bats to birds to turtles and frogs. There is a great lookout point before you get to the boardwalk. Head up and get a great view of the marsh.

Beaches

After a hot day of hiking around the park find one of the beaches in the park. There is a nice sandy coast lone so you will have no problems find a beach that is not super crowded. There are no lifeguards and you should not swim at the peak as there is a large undertow there. People have tragically lost their lives here so please do not.

Canoeing

Canoe rentals are available from May to Thanksgiving but if you have your own you can bring it to the boardwalk area. The marsh is a great place to see wildlife and nature.

Bird Watching

Bird watchers from all over the world come to Point Pelee for a chance to get a glimpse at some of the Migrating birds that make their way through this area. The festival of birds is held in May.

Butterflies Sight in Point Pelee

Another great sight to see the during the Monarch butterfly migration. Trees filled with wings in the wind. Take a hike to the peak of the park to see the most. Thousands stop here for a few days in the fall. Check with Point Pelee to see when they think it will be this year.

The Tip

The place that everyone comes to visit. You can catch me here a couple times a year. I love to see how the tip has changed. They added a new observation building but with covid in 2020 it was closed. From here on a clear day you can see Middle Island which is the most Southern place of Canada.

Taking a drive in Point Pelee

Some times you just need to take a drive. Heading down through tree tunnels, pulling over for some scenery shots. The great thing here is, no one is in a rush. But as a curtesy if you do wish to drive really slow, pull over and let the person pass.

Point Pelee National Park

This is a great place for families. For those who love photography. It is a bird watchers paradise and so much more. Plus how often can you say you were standing on the edge of Canada.
