Volcanos, Canceled Flights and a New Friend
I left Jaco early that morning as I was driving alone I didn’t want to get lost and not make my flight. As I got into San Jose I got lost, of course. I made my way around town asking for directions and getting no where. I thought I was driving around in fog turns out I wasn’t. I got to a car rental place, not mine but one of the same. As I pulled in, windows down, the women looked at me as if I was crazy. She told me it wasn’t fog, it was ash. What?? Oh yes the volcano had gone off and the the air was not good. So she told me how to get to my rental place and to keep the windows up.
Returning the Car and Heading to the Airport
I finally find the right place and if you remember they were not the greatest company to deal with at the beginning of my trip. After a long morning the last thing I wanted to deal with was these people. I went in with attitude, and felt like a jerk after. I really didn’t want to hear what they were going to charge me for the damage I made. Turns out there was already small damage to the car and they were not going to bill me. I was so relieve but that was short lived as I found out my stay was going to be longer. Now, I loved it here but it was time to go home. A sweet lady sitting next me told me all flights were canceled, great!
Meeting Adi and a Small Tour
As I got to the airport there it was all flights canceled. Now to my surprise Air Canada was horrible to deal with. No one there to tell us what was going on, when can we leave? After hours of sitting around my new found friend Adi, also Canadian, and I made our way to a hotel for the night. Adi you are a gem. He took me for a small tour, we stopped for pizza and beer and made our way back to the hotel for some much needed sleep.
The next morning was a nightmare. This where I lost all respect for Air Canada and why I will never fly with them again. Once I got up and of course had my morning coffee I called Air Canada. I asked them if they had an update on our flight, her response, your flight left yesterday. I asked her if she was serious and if she had any idea what happened here. After sitting on hold for a while she finally came back and said our flight was booked now for the afternoon. So it was time to shop. Adi and I headed out and went shopping. After a few clothing shops we went back to the hotel and checked out. Finally we were leaving. I loved Costa Rica and maybe one day I will go back. Until then Pura Vida.
