Where to explore the Dead Sea

We will start this guide to the Dead Sea in Jordan. There are 2 other countries you can visit the Dead Sea from and those are West Bank and Israel. This was our last stop on our luxury vacation and it was truly beautiful.

There are 3 ways you can visit the Dead Sea in Jordan. Not everyone can afford to luxury hotel but everyone should have this experience. What I loved about Jordan was there is something here for all levels of affordability. Yes, Jordan is a very expensive country but there are so many things for every budget.

A free beach for those who just want to pull off and experience the weightlessness. The free beach is just a beach. You will not get the mud or a fresh shower after, but it is still an amazing time. There is also the Beach. Both of these can be found on google maps. You will want to make sure you have proper shoes as both of these areas a very rocky.

Next is Amman Beach which is about 20 JD at this time of posting. Here you will have both the mud and a fresh shower to rinse off. There are lawn chairs and a pool that you can use. The reviews are mixed on this but for short day visit I would think it’s ok.

The third option, a hotel either for a day pass or overnight. As part of our tour we stayed at Movenpick, which is really luxurious. This resort is stunning and I would recommend it even just for a day pass. The amenities will you have access to are the pools, bar, restaurants and spa. The change room is very clean, I didn’t take pictures but they are really nice.

The reason, as a woman, that I would choose a day pass at a hotel is if you are planning to wear a western swimsuit. We never had any issues with locals, however, I have seen in reviews that women have, at times, been made to feel uncomfortable on public beaches.

Tips for the ladies

If you are visiting a public beach, as I said before, there can be some uncomfortable looking. Also DO NOT SHAVE! Shave the night before, or be prepared to feel the burn. As you know by this point the salt content is high and fresh silky legs and underarms will feel it.

History of the Dead Sea

Learning the history of places is something I really enjoy. I really loved how the Dead Sea came about. How it became a lake is incredible. The land surrounding it rose so much that the ocean could no longer reach it. The Dead Sea has a salinity of about 34%, which is not the highest in the world but most likely the only spot that is easy to reach. The highest is in Antarctica. Unfortunately, it’s disappearing, see below on that.

The 3 steps to experiencing the Dead Sea

We had a great tour guide who gave us the full rundown how how to get the best experience. It was confirmed when we overheard the lifeguard explaining it to another guest. If you follow the next 3 steps you will get the true experience of the Dead Sea.

Soak – The first thing you want to do is make your way into the water. Soak it all up and lift your feet. Now, I’m not going to lie, I did struggle with floating which you can see in my video HOW NOT TO FLOAT IN THE DEAD SEA. If you take the advice from Jodi, the best way to do it is, hold out your arms and sit and let your feet rise up. This is how I managed to do it but still for some reason could not keep myself afloat.

Mud – after about 20 mins you will want to come out and get muddy. Rub it all over your body, avoid the eye area. (If you get the salt water in your eyes it will burn for about 15 minutes) sit in the sun for about 15- 20 minutes letting the mud harden. You will notice the oils from the Dead Sea will be on your skin and some areas may not harden.

Rinse – Time to get back into the sea. Rinse it off and relax for a bit longer. I wouldn’t suggest being in here for too long as your sunscreen is now gone and you will get burnt. Again be mindful to avoid your eyes and mouth, check out my video to have a good laugh.

Tip: Our driver told us I failed because you have to be relaxed. I know now because I was filming our experience that I was not relaxed enough. I guess this means I will need to return and try it again, without my lens.

Why you need to go soon

drying up

So what you may not know is that the Dead Sea is drying up. It is said by 2050 it will disappear. This again is heart breaking and due to climate change this amazing body of water will be gone. As we made our way to our hotel our driver stopped and showed us where the Dead Sea was at one point. It is sad to see so much of it already gone. That is another thing I love about travel, seeing places that may no longer exist in the future and why I love sharing my experiences. Not everyone has the luxury to travel but I hope that people can experience it through me.

The lowest place on Earth

lowest

Another thing our driver told us about this spot, is the air (oxygen) is much higher. Meaning you can run here much longer, not that I was going to test that ha ha ha. We did however notice this while walking the stairs of our hotel. Being 460 meters below sea level is really interesting. I found my legs were not cramping as much and I had so much more energy.

Buying the products

Now I’m not going to lie I bought the product, but did so at the airport and it was for my mom and dad. I loved the feeling on my skin and how my body felt after getting out so I thought I would bring it home for them to try. They haven’t used it yet but will update you on it once they do.

Final Thoughts

final sea

This was the perfect way to end our time in Jordan. Poolside and soaking up the sea is a great way to relax yourself before you get back to reality.

The Dead Sea won’t be there for much longer and if this is a bucket list experience for you I would book it now and don’t keep putting it off.

I can’t express enough the amazing feeling I had getting out of the Dead Sea. The oils on my skin, the relaxation of my muscles, it was so worth it.

Even though I struggled with floating, I had an amazing time. Can’t float? Just make the most of it, soak it all in, before it’s gone.
