Lake Louise
One of the top attractions in Banff National Park is Lake Louise. Famous for its turquois lakes and stunning mountain backdrop. Can you go swimming? Sure can, but it won’t be for long. The lake rarely gets over 5C (41F). Want to have a great picture? Make sure you are here early, before 7am. There are many spots along the shore to take amazing photos.
Also from here you can find some amazing hiking trails. Check out Top hiking trails around Banff Alberta
Moraine Lake
Another stunning turquois lake on the list. With more mountain peaks and different views it is, what I personally think, is the better of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. If you have time for only one make this your one. There are three things not to miss while here. The path that runs along the shoreline to the waterfalls. The rock pile, for the amazing photo seen here. As well as rent a canoe. Once again, if you want parking and a great picture without a lot of people in it, be early!
Banff Ave
Make sure you don’t miss out on a leisurely stroll down Banff Ave. Another Pinterest photo op, can you find me in this one? Banff Ave is a great place for shopping, dinner, drinks and of course BeaverTail (another spot not to miss). This is a pedestrian zone 4 lanes and sidewalks wide and is the heart of Banff.
BeaverTail
As I mentioned in Banff Ave, BeaverTail is a must. This world famous Canadian pastry originated in Ontario Canada and can now be found worldwide. Try the Avalanche! Cheesecake spread, Skor bits with drizzled caramel. Can’t handle all the sweetness go for the Classic, with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar!
Rocky Mountain Flannel
Time to dress like a Canadian! Nothing says the Rockies like Flannel. Just a block from Banff Ave you will find Rocky Mountain Flannel. Great quality clothing from shirts, to PJ’s, to socks and more! Stop in and say hi to Gayle the owner and tell her Jenny sent you, since we can’t hug yet. Want to get your gear before you go? Check out her out online
Banff Springs Hotel Tour
Take the free self guided tour of the infamous Banff Springs Hotel. This luxurious hotel has hosted many famous people over the years included Marilyn Monroe, the Royal Family and so much more. We can’t all afford to stay here but why not explore the grounds of history.
Bow Lake
Bow Lake is about 30 minutes from Lake Louise. One of the many lakes located on the Icefields Parkway. This small lake is lined with some stunning mountain peaks and is a great spot to stop and take in the views. Also glacier fed. On a clear, sunny, not so windy day you will have beautiful mountain reflections off the emerald waters.
Johnston Canyon
Take a scenic stroll alongside the Johnston Creek. Johnston Canyon is a breathtaking nature trail. Limestone cliffs, lush forest, and the sounds of cascading waterfalls is truly wonderful. Open 24 hours a day it is best to be early if you want to find some parking.
Banff Poutine
You can’t go to any Canadian place without having a true Montreal Style poutine! What makes it authentic is the cheese curds (squeaky cheese) Located just off of Banff Ave on Bear St. You have a few choices of style, but you can’t go wrong with a classic!
Tea House
This tea house was built for hikers in 1901. Take the ultimate experience of Lake Louise and make your way to Lake Agnes Tea house. Here is one of two tea houses you can visit. You can also find Plain of Six Glaciers Tea house as well. Feeling energetic? Take the tea house challenge and do the 14.6km loop to both!
