Rupumpack Hydration Backpack Review

Choosing a good or even great hydration backpack is not an easy task. This was my first one and I purchased it for our road trip around Nevada, Utah and Arizona. The Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack 2.5l is a great little bag.

I’m by no means a professional reviewer, however I’m honest and did not get this pack for free, so I can tell you the great and not so great things about this pack.

This insulated hydration pack holds a 2.5l water bag and is really comfortable for medium length hikes. If you’re thinking of getting this pack read below to see if it’s right for you and your needs.

Storage for The Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack

Rupumpack Hydration Backpack

This was one thing I loved about the Rupumpack. There are 6 zippered compartments, one front pocket, 2 side holders and a inner zipper area. I love organization and this bag was so fantastic for that. The main opening has a slide spot for a laptop but would not suggest that if you are using the hydration bag (more on that below). The second main compartment has an extra zipper inside which is a great spot to put your wallet. There are 2 small compartments on the waist strap which can hold your phone in one and keys in the other.

There’s 2 water bottle storage areas. You would think with a 2.5l hydration bag you wouldn’t need these. However one thing I have learnt over the years is if you are using any type of flavoring or electrolytes you do not want to put those in your water bag. I used one of the mesh side pockets for our electrolytes and the other for extras or garbage.

The insulation compartment, well let’s be real, that’s why you’re here. I’m having a hard time coming to a conclusion on the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack. I liked it, it did a great job keeping the water cool. However if you plan to put ice or bags of ice, it will melt, and it will leak. If your hydration bag leaks you will have it running down the back of your legs. This was the one negative review I have on this pack.

Shoulder and waist straps on the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack

This is probably the best feature I loved about the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack. The straps were nice and thick on both the shoulders and waist. There is also a chest strap and is not thick.

All the straps are adjustable to a large size, making this great for both men and women. If your bag is full the front zip pockets will be further back and will make them not so easy to reach anymore.

Comfort of the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack

As I had said before, I really enjoyed the comfort of this pack. We used this on each trail from 1 mile to 8 miles. We used it in extreme heat (104 degrees F) and river hiking.

Even with 2.5l of water in the hydration bag, 2 water bottles, lots of snacks and camera gear, I did not feel like I had that much.

Pros and Cons to the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack

Let start with the pros for the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack

  • Storage – the storage was great. All the different compartments allows you to organize all your things.
  • Quality – I found the quality of the zippers and the material to be good. I never had any issues with the zippers or material ripping. I packed a lot of weight in the bag and fell it held up well
  • Comfort – for short to medium (1 mile to 10 mile) hikes this bag was comfortable.

Next is the cons, and although there are not many they might be a game changer from some for the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack

  • Leakproof – this bag is not. If your hydration pack leaks your buttock will get wet. I find this import because if you have your camera or laptop on the bag they will not be protected.
  • Breathable – this is another flaw I had found. Mind you the weather was extremely hot and sweating was bound to happen. Found as much as the back padding was great it was so hot.
  • Insulation – it did keep the water cool, however the hose would get so hot that it heated the water. Now this is not a game changer for me but for those who need cold water, you will find that you need to take a few swings before you get to the cool water.

There you have it. Would I buy this bag for a friend, yes! The price is great and as I said before the Rupumpack Insulated Hydration Backpack held up great for our last trip and I’m sure it will do great all the next adventures.

  1. I agree 100% with this review. Both pros and cons. As you know , I have the same backpack just a different color. Considering the unseasonably warm temps, I think it held up when not letting us down.
