Off to my 4 Day Adventure
I booked my Krugar Park safari through BazBus. Mainly because the reviews were great and I used it throughout my trip to different places. I highly recommend using them. The service was amazing and our guide was fantastic! Here is the tent I was planning on staying in, however after seeing the small hut I upgraded.
On the bus ride out there I met a great young lady Valeria from Argentina and asked her if she wanted to come to hut as there was 2 beds. I told her it was on me but she had to come to the bar with me at night so I didn’t drink alone 🍷
Night Safari
As the sun set we made our way in a large open bus up to the front gate of Kruger Park. Greeting us there was the giant elephant. I am not sure if it was the lights behind it but I was so intimated that I didn’t even get my camera out. As we made our way through the park, listening to the cries of the hyena , in the pitch dark. I truly was at the wilds mercy and it was liberating. We drove around spotting so many nocturnal animals, the safari at night truly is a world of its own. We set back to the camp for a much needed meal.
Early Bird gets the Worm and to See the BIG 5
During dinner the night before we were told about the Big 5. This term comes from game hunters. These animals are the hardest to hunt. I hate that they are even hunted at all. They told us that if you see the big five on your trip you are very lucky as people come many times to get a chance to experience it. Low and behold our guide found all five our first day and it was a dream. I am only posting the picture of the Rhino now because this was years ago. At the time we did not talk about it’s location even back at camp or to other people. The reason for this, poachers! They, the poachers, take guided tours to find locations on the Rhino. One of the staff at the camp told me he also worked with animal protection, a ranger. Some of the stories of being shot at or shooting at people were crazy but I get why he does it. These animals are just that, to kill for trophy or to see who has the better (ego) is to me sick.
Safari Meal Time
Everyone’s got to eat! Our first afternoon out we didn’t get to see the hunt or the kill but we did get to experience the hierarchy. So, I had no idea the women did the hunt and kill. This was crazy to me, but not surprised as women are better at most things. Once they made the kill they left it to the men and went off to find one of their own. As we were sitting waiting for the king to eat our guide explained they go in order. First the king next the first male and so on. After about an hour I too was ready to eat and off we went to enjoy our own meal, which was mouth watering.
Our Last Night. A Feast and Bonfire.
Ok as you know by now I love a good meal. This one will stay with me forever. When I pictured Africa this is what I seen. Walking into an area with a bonfire in the middle, a tall grass wall around us and a meal fit for a king. I was in Heaven. This was the perfect last night.
Our Last Morning, the Trip Back
The scenery back was surreal. We had enough time to make a stop at one of the best look outs I have ever been to. Blyde River Canyon is about 3 hours from Krugar Park and it was every bit worth the stop. Not going to lie it was a far drop and my fear of heights kept from getting closer. I wish I had more time to take it all in.
