This trip was the beginning of our weekend getaways. Jodi and I both work together making it difficult to get time off for longer vacations. One day I was complaining that I needed a little holiday, she suggested to look at short flights that leave early Saturday and come back late Sunday. We started looking for short flights that were less than 3 hours. Low and behold we find Myrtle Beach just a couple hours away and perfect timing. Also the price was perfect, 125 round trip, can’t beat it. So on a cold rainy day in Canada we flew out early Saturday morning and land in South Carolina with its warm air and salty breeze.
Warm Ocean Air and Sand in my Toes
We jump in a cab and make our way downtown. It is too early to check into our hotel so we make our way to the boardwalk looking for a coffee shop. We found the cutest little place called boardwalk coffee shop and deli. Amazing java! With coffee in hand we sit on a bench watching as the stores and restaurants begin to open, people doing their morning routines and the beginning of the days hustle. After a short time we made our way to the beach to get a little sand between the toes, off in the distance we could see a small shower was going to happen. Getting hungry we made our way back to the boardwalk.
Time for Food and Drinks
Just as it started to drizzle Landshark Bar and grill opened and we couldn’t get in fast enough. Not only was I needing an alcoholic beverage, I was starving. This place was amazing, great service, great food and strong drinks. As we finished up our meal and multiple drinks we made our way to the hotel to check in. This hotel was cute and the price was reasonable and with reviews of no bed bugs we were sold. Yes that was a big deal, maybe you can tell me why that area is pretty bad with that. After a couple hours relaxing pool side, listening to music we decided to go get ready for dinner.

Boardwalk and Entertainment
We walked around the Boardwalk area checking out some of the shops and local attractions. They have your typical places, Ripley Believe or Not, Arcades, Surf shops and lots of burger joints. This is a great place for families too as there is so much for kids. They have the Ferris Wheel and Free Fall Park, which has a great story to it and I will get to that in day 2 of the fun
Big Drinks and a Full Belly
So deciding where to eat we wanted to be on the ocean again and made our way to RipTydz Oceanfront Grille & Rooftop Bar. Great view, friendly service and the portions of food were incredible. The drinks were great and more than large enough, thanks Jodi’s dad who bought them for us. After dinner we went back to the room, after only a few hours of sleep the night before, it was time to relax
Pancakes!!!
The next morning we checked out of the hotel and made our way to Olympic Flame Pancake House, the food was amazing. Time to walk off the calories so we went back down to the beach to check out the Pier
Jelly Fish Everywhere
The breeze that day was so refreshing. So the one thing what had be boggled was the amount of Jelly Fish, so of course my enquiring mind need answers and I sought out a lifeguard. He informed us that this was a natural occurrence, very sad
Social Butterflies and Sling Shots
After a few hours of wondering around we made our way back to Land Shark for some day drinking. Our flight was leaving around 9pm so we had time. And this is where the day got interesting. Jodi and I are quite the social butterflies so we make friends wherever we go, and really, who hates Canadians? After a few wobbles I got the liquid courage to go to the Free Fall Park and go on Sling Shot. There is a video of this to which will never been seen. But here is the evidence that I did make it on. What a way to end this great weekend, two days, that felt like a week. Thanks to my new found friend, because Jodi didn’t believe me that I would do it, such faith hahaha, I was able to do it. Did I conquer the fear, NO WAY, but it was a blast and I got a t-shirt
