Where is Page Arizona
Page Arizona is located in north central Arizona, just miles from the Utah border. It is 273 miles from Phoenix Arizona and 272 miles from Las Vegas Nevada. Some of the famous trademarks found here are the slot canyons, Lake Powell and borders on the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.
Where to stay
Lake Powell resort – This is where we stayed and it was truly beautiful. We spent 2 nights here and the sunrise and sunsets were stunning. Waking up, getting a coffee and sitting outside with a great view of Lake Powell. It is located just outside of Page, about 15 minutes, in the Wahweap Recreation Area. If you have an annual National Park pass it will work here.
If you are RVing or camping you can find a spot at Page Lake Powell Campground. You can even find yourself sleeping in an old stagecoach. Next time I will check this place out. This campground is located in the heart of Page.
Where to eat
We didn’t eat out much on this trip but we did go to one place here. On the night we were driving in the smell hit us like a wall. It was amazing and at first I didn’t know if it was because I was so hungry or if it was just that good. The next day after our tour we had to stop and see, we were not disappointed, it was amazing. Big John’s Texas BBQ. Now I know this is not Texas and we should have tried something “local” but you have to go here. The service was top notch and the food was even better!
Top things to do in Page Arizona
1. Antelope Canyon
Now there are a lot of tours for Antelope Canyon, the most popular being the Upper and Lower. You must take a tour to visit any of the slot canyons. If you are not worried about cost I would suggest going on the Upper or Lower tours. These are the best slot canyons in the area and you will be in large groups.
Now if you are looking for something more budget friendly and smaller group (more time for pictures) I would suggest Antelope Canyon X by Taadidiin Tours. This is a great company and you will still walk through the slot canyon. Our guide Leo was amazing and so knowledgeable about the area we were in. To top it off it is a lot less money to do this one.
There is also the Mystical Canyon tour which is another slot canyon. Below are the links to the top tours for each canyon.
Antelope Canyon X Tour : Taadidiin Tours
Upper Antelope Tour : Antelope Canyon Navajo Tours
Lower Antelope Tour : Ken’s Tours
Mystical Antelope Canyon : Mystical Antelope Canyon Tour they also have camping
2. Horseshoe Bend
Beautiful to watch the sunrise or set. Horseshoe bend is an area of cliffs where the Colorado River wraps itself like a horseshoe. This area has steep drop offs so be sure to watch your kids. The hike from the parking lots is about 10-15 minutes with a couple sun shelters.
Be sure to bring water with you and sunscreen on the warm and boiling hot days. You will also be met with large crowds so be mindful and as always take out your trash. There are entrance fees for parking here, check out the city of page website for the latest fees.
- Motorcycle: $5
- Car or RV: $10
- Commercial Van/Bus: (Passenger Capacity up to 14) $35
- Commercial Bus: (Passenger Capacity 15-35) $70
- Commercial Bus: (Passenger Capacity over 35) $140
3. Lake Powell
Lake Powell in Page Arizona is an artificial reservoir and attracts over 2 million people a year. Part of the Colorado River system Lake Powell runs into the Glen Canyon Dam, which I will talk about later. Lake Powell is a great place to take your family to do some paddle boarding, jet skiing or to do a river tour.
4. Wahweap Recreation Area
Just outside of Page Arizona. this is a cute little drive with many outlook areas along the way. It’s a great place to come and enjoy lunch or a good swim. This is also another spot you can camp or RV. There is an entrance fee to the park, if you have the annual National Parks Pass you will just need to show that. If you do not here is Park Website to get all the up to date prices.
This is a great family area and if you are into boating a great place to launch your boat. There is a lovely picnic area to enjoy some food and great views. You can also find some trails to walk around the lakeside.
- Update a lot of this area is closed due to water levels. Be sure to check the site before you go
5. Rainbow Bridge Arch
Another great spot to check out is the Rainbow Bridge (Arch). There are 2 ways to get here, boat or hike. Now I would suggest the boat as the hike will take you 2 or 3 days to get here and is for only experienced hikers. The trail is not marked well in some areas and you can get lost. For the boat option, would be my choice, at only 5 hours long you can book through Lake Powell Marina.
6. Hiking Trails in and around Page Arizona
- Hanging Garden Trail – At just over 1 mile with only a 19 meter elevation this is a great trail for everyone.
- Waterhole Canyon Trail – At almost 3 miles this popular trail requires a tour, you cannot do this trail on your own but is a stunning trail to take.
- Rimview Trail – Looking for a longer trail? Check out this 10 mile trail. This trail is rated easy but younger and older people may have a difficult time.
- Beehive Trail – another shorter trail at just under 2 miles you will have some great walking over some slickrock.
Check out my hike to Big Beehive in Banff Alberta in my Trails not to miss in Banff
7. Skylight Arch
Another beautiful Arch to be found is the Skylight Arch. This 2 mile trail will give some amazing Panoramic views. It is about 6 miles outside of Page Arizona. A great place to get that Instagram shot.
Check out Arches National Park
8. The wave
If you have luck on your side I would check out The Wave. Just an hour outside Page you will find one of the best spots in the area aside from the slot canyons. The trick, you have to put in for a lottery, either 3 months or two nights before and with thousands of people wanting to visit it really is like winning the lottery. These are hard to get so if you go, congrats, go buy a money lottery ticket.
One place I will try my luck at next time I visit. At the most 64 people are given permits to visit or 16 groups (up to 4) which ever comes first.
Page Arizona was a great stop on our trip. As the last place before we headed back to Las Vegas we were able to relax here. It is definitely a place I would come to again to try a few things I didn’t get to do this time around. Great for families, photographers, hikers and everyone in between.
Do you have a spot In Page Arizona that I didn’t mention? Tell me why it’s a must go to spot in the comments below. Happy ventures everyone.
