The Island of Oahu truly is the scene of a movie. So we decided to make a 2 day road trip to see where some movies were filmed. We started the adventure in Honolulu using public transit. Our first stop was a movie but the reality of it was hard to take it.
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is mostly known for the attack that took place Decemeber 7, 1941. On that day 2403 people lost their lives and 1178 were wounded. Myself and 4 others jumped on the local transit and made our way over.
First stop on the tour was the USS Arizona. As the guide took us inside the memorial all I could think of was the people who lost their lives that fateful morning. One thing that still sticks out to me was the story of the child. One of the men on the ship had the ashes of his child onboard and that day along with everyone the child was laid to rest. What I love is that still to this day men ask for their ashes to be placed within the wreckage.
Submarine tour was fantastic. I always wondered what it would be like. As someone who has worked on ships above the water I couldn’t imagine what life would be like under the sea. The small quarters would not go well for me. It was amazing though to see even though they were in a small place it felt big as everything was perfectly laid out.
This is definitely a most stop tour. All to those who served and are still serving today. Thank you for what you do.
Kualoa Ranch
Kauloa Ranch is located on the east side of the Island. Ever wonder where some of the most famous movies have been filmed, well here it is. Some movies that have been filmed here are You, Me & Dupree, 50 First Dates, Mighty Joe Young, Godzilla and Jurassic Park. T.V. shows such as Hawaii Five O and Lost have also been filmed here.
There are a few tours you can choose from. Jurassic Tour, ATV Raptor tour 1 hour or 2 hour, Ziplining, Movie tour, a horseback riding tour and even a jungle expedition.
Take a tour inside a WW2 bunker which is filled with movie posters and memorabilia from movies that have been filmed onsite.
This is another must do here, especially if you are a movie buff such as myself. If you are lucky you might even be there while something is being filmed. We did see a cast member from Lost that which was pretty cool.
Time for the Beach and a bite to eat
Dukes is a must go to place located at Waikiki beach. Not only are the drinks and food phenomenal, the service is excellent and the views are amazing. Any time I hear someone is going to Honolulu I tell them they have to come here. They always thank me when they come back. Get yourself a Dukes Mai Tai and Dukes Nachos, you won’t be disappointed.
You can’t leave this Island without stopping at Waikiki beach for some surf, even to watch, and some shopping. This beach is always full of life. You can sit back and watch some surfing or even catch a few guys heading out on a traditional canoe.
